Poll: My Best Photo?

by Aaron

Flickr is having a “Best Photo of 2009” contest where group members are encouraged to share one and only one photo from 2009. I’m torn so I’m turning it over to you. Which one should I submit?

If I Jump, Will I Slide?

Taken atop Baltimore’s World Trade Center of the National Aquarium. This photo is special to me because of the conflicting angles and lines. The color is nice as well.

Inauguration Change?

Taken on January 20, 2009 at Inauguration Day, this picture to me represents the change in America, yet also how much things are the same. In this case, commercialism reigns supreme. The figure is shrouded in a dark hooded jacket and is selling tee shirts, and carries a suggestion of the Grim Reaper.

Ben & Jerrys

Taken in San Francisco in the Mission District, this picture conveys a sense of “classic America” as an old man purchases ice cream from an icre cream cart vendor.

The Bridge of War

This photo has an antique quality to it and is a picture of one of America’s most famous civil war landmarks – Burnside’s Bridge at Antietam National Battlefield. The picture is iconic, yet conveys a sense of solitude and foreboding. Without knowing what, an outside observer would say, “Something bad happened here” just by looking at the picture.

So what do you think?

I like “If I Jump…” for much the same reasons you do….although the Civil War buff in me has a soft spot for “The Bridge of War”….good work!

They are ALL great photos Aaron, but I love the abstract nature of the first image. When I first looked at it I was like “Shit! Which way is up?” And I think that’s the intent. Great work.

If I wasn’t familiar with the location of “If I Jump…”, I probably would have chosen the Inauguration one. All great photos though!

Dude you refuse to make things easy do you? In all honestly I like them all but I chose the “If I jump” one because of the colors and angles. Everybody is doin Obama…(WOW, that sounds dirty…LMAO) so I thought that would be a good different picture. Good luck and hope you win.

Honestly, it’s a dead heat among all the photos. :)

They are all great but I had to go with “Ben & Jerrys”. Ice cream & grandparents. Extended amounts of time with both are good for the soul for life.

All nicely seen, however Inauguration Change gets my vote for its simplicity. Good luck!

If I jump is an amazing shot of Baltimore architecture, color, and texture. So much going on in one photo a robust discussion can be spawned from it.

Love the Ben & Jerry’s one. If I’d seen that image in person I would have stopped to notice it too. Of course I live in the Bay Area, so I could be biased.:)

I’d go with “If I Jump” but a close second would be “Ben & Jerry’s”.

I thought to myself, “Which would I rather have framed on my wall?” The answer was Ben & Jerrys.

Nice work, Aaron!

I voted for “If I jump…” because it gave me a fresh and wild new perspective on a very familiar Baltimore landmark.

Aaron … I love the one of Burnside Bridge. Obviously, I *might* be biased because, well, I live practically next door … but the colors & tones in that shot make it both soothing & maudlin at the same time.

While we’re at it, I really wish you’d post more photos. You do good work. :)

I know the poll is closed, but my pick would have been “The Bridge of War” shot. They are all wonderful images, but that one is my favorite.

Aaron: I’m a professional commercial photographer. I tend to shoot visions of food, buildings and events. Congrats on all of the photo’s provided but I think that “If I jump…..” is my choice due to the variance of color and wonderful composition. I would submit to flickr “If I jump…” image. I adore flickr (although I don’t have a place-holder there) I have my own website with many galleries. You lead into this discussion with “If I jump, will I slide,” the naming of the photo. As you know one of the greatest challenges in capturing an image is “naming it.”

So the flickr poll is closed. Hmmmmmm! I’m always “very” late to the game.

Check out my website ALL. I think you’ll find many photo’s there that bend your brain.

Denny
